Greece

Greece has been a donor to ICMP’s Western Balkans Program and in 2018 joined Cyprus, Italy and Malta in the Joint Process to account for missing migrants in the Mediterranean region. In November 2021 the Greek Ministry of Migration and asylum hosted the third meeting of the Joint Process, in Athens.

In 2013, responding to a request from the DNA Analysis Laboratory of the Athens Department of Legal Medicine, ICMP carried out DNA testing of highly degraded samples from cases of unidentified skeletal remains, obtaining genetic profiles.

In 2023, at the request of the Greek authorities, ICMP provided assistance to identify Syrian victims of the Pylos shipwreck, as well as victims of wildfires in Greece.
