The Hague, 30 March 2026 – The International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) expresses its sincere condolences on the passing of Slavica Marinović, a dedicated advocate for the rights of families of missing persons and civilian victims of war.
Slavica Marinović’s engagement was shaped by personal loss—her husband went missing during the war. She transformed this loss into a lifelong commitment to seeking truth, justice, and recognition for all those affected by conflict.
She played a prominent role in the work of the Association of Croatian Civilian War Victims, where she served as Secretary and contributed to numerous initiatives aimed at securing the rights and status of civilian victims. Through her public engagement, she participated in dialogue with institutions, public discussions, and legislative initiatives, consistently advocating for the rights of families of the missing and for improved legal protections for civilian victims.
Beyond that, she was actively involved in regional cooperation as a member of the Regional Coordination Board of the Regional Network of Associations of Families of Missing Persons from the former Yugoslavia. In this capacity, she contributed to strengthening cooperation across the region, promoting the exchange of experiences, and advancing the rights and dignity of victims regardless of national boundaries.
Slavica Marinović will be remembered for her persistence, dignity, and unwavering commitment to ensuring that the voices of families of the missing are heard and respected.
