Science and Technology
ICMP’ Science and Technology Program supports a global resource available to governments and others engaged in addressing the issue of persons missing as a result of armed conflict, manmade and natural disasters, human rights violations, organized violence and other causes.
They encompass Archaeology, Anthropology and DNA Team who work hand-in-hand to support missing persons investigations through subject matter expertise and testing capabilities that span location, recovery and identification.
In addition to offering technical support and training for ICMP’s geographic programs, our Science and Technology Team possesses expertise in forensic archaeology and anthropology. They also maintain accredited capabilities for DNA testing and kinship matching, which can be mobilized to assist governments or other partners as needed.
ICMP’s scientific and technical assistance is supported by interrelated mechanisms:
- DNA testing laboratories that assist in identifying missing persons through DNA profiling, comparison and kinship matching.
- A Forensic Archaeology and Anthropological Division (AAD) with expert capabilities in the location, recovery and examination of human remains.
- A Custom-designed Integrated Data Management System (iDMS) for ICMP’s own requirements, as well as those of its partners.
