About ICMP

ICMP works with governments, civil society organizations, justice institutions, international organizations and families throughout the world to address the issue of missing persons. People go missing as a result of armed conflict, human rights abuses, disasters, organized crime, migration and other causes.

ICMP is an intergovernmental organization tasked exclusively to work on the issue of missing. ICMP is actively engaged fostering social and political advocacy, and developing and providing technical expertise to locate and identify the missing persons.

Mandate

ICMP endeavours to secure the co-operation of governments and other authorities in locating persons missing as a result of armed conflicts, human rights abuses, natural and man-made disasters and other involuntary reasons and to assist them in doing so.

ICMP also supports the work of other organisations in their efforts, encourages public involvement in its activities and contributes to the development of appropriate expressions of commemoration and tribute to the missing.
