21 March 2013: The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, H.E. Ambassador Jurriaan Kraak, visited the Identification Coordination Division (ICD) of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) and the Podrinje Identification Project (PIP) in Tuzla today.
Ambassador Kraak said that he was pleased to see the excellent work of the ICMP to which the Government of The Netherlands has been one of the largest donors. The Netherlands takes a great interest in the search for and identification of persons missing from the war of the ‘90s. Accounting for missing persons from armed conflict is essential to the full implementation of the rule of law. Ambassador Kraak stressed the importance that the BiH government give priority to the search for missing persons and allocate the required financial means. He therefore called upon the government of BiH to fully implement the Law on Missing including the creation of the Fund for Providing Assistance to the Families of Missing Persons.
“I would like to thank Ambassador Kraak for his visit and for the incredible support of the Dutch Government. ICMP’s work in this country and the organization’s development into a globally available resource would not have possible without the consistent and generous support of The Netherlands”, said ICMP Director General Kathryne Bomberger following the visit.
ICMP endeavors to secure the co-operation of governments and other authorities in locating and identifying persons missing as a consequence of wars, human rights abuses and natural disasters, or other involuntary reasons, and to assist them in doing so.
Since its establishment ICMP has been funded through donations and contributions from more than 20 countries. Of the 40,000 people estimated missing from the conflicts in the former Yugoslavia, ICMP has identified 16,891 since 2001 using DNA-assisted techniques, in Bosnia alone 14,019.[:bs]

Ambasador Kraljevine Nizozemske, Nj.E.
